A high school student engineering team required some manufacturing milling of a critical component.

The foam body supplied by the team incorporated a standardized CO2 cartridge mounting hole that was offset from the centerline of the part. Because the Roland mill lacked a powered support on the opposing side of the workpiece, I designed and manufactured a custom fixture to accurately locate and support the foam during machining operations. The solution significantly improved alignment and repeatability, though the process still presented some limitations due to the constraints of the machine and available fixturing
